Despite disappointing box office returns, both have gone on to become classics of Anime and today are among many fans' top ten lists. The first is the lighthearted MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, and the melancholy tragedy GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES, directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, respectively. Both of which are polar opposites, but in many ways alike. They also share a lot of compelling behind the scenes facts. Take a memory trip down memory lane as this panel discusses this odd couple of masterpieces and explores their rich history.
